Title: Eiríks saga víðförla

Tags: none

Description:

One of the förnaldarsögur, literally "sagas of ancient times," also called heroic sagas or legendary sagas. Eirík's by-name or cognomen, víðförla, means "widely traveled," and references the protagonist's journey far to the east, first to Byzantium and then too the fantastical land of Glæsisvellir ("glittering fieds"), in search of the Údáinsakr (literally "undying acre," or "undying lands," like the mystical island in Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings).
