Description:
A genre of videogame which evolved from its table-top predecessors, especially Dungeons & Dragons, where a player controls a character (or team of characters) in a detailed setting, whether a complex fictional world or one modeled on the real world, which features a progression system based on increasing stat numbers and acquiring better equipment and abilities. RPGs can also have elements, though not requisites of the genre, such as character creation, randomly-generated environments or encounters, exploration, quests, and dungeon-delving. These and other features can appear in greater or lesser prominence in different RPGs, and RPG elements can also be incorporated into other genres of videogames, often referred to by industry and marketing formulae such as "_____ is a survival action game with RPG elements."| Name | Description |
